millions of instances with motion blur

Hi,
I'm trying to render sand grains, approx 20 million particles, rendered as instances of 4 different grain geometry types. Although the scene processing time can be a couple of minutes, it does manage to render using about 13gb of vram. But if I turn on motion blur, after a longer processing time it fails with the following error:
"Rendering failure. Octane can't render the scene. Check the available GPU memory or the scene complexity".

Does enabling motion blur significantly increase memory usage or is there something else going on?

The workstation is an amd 3970x, 128 gb ram, geforce 4090.
Octane version 2022.1.1.1
Houdini 19.5.640

Thanks
/Yaniv

Can you explain a little more about your setup in Houdini? For example how are you instancing the sand geo on top points? Octane requires the use of Object level instance node.

Hi Yaniv,

Thanks for the post.

Have you tried **Enable Out of core** option from the Options dialog?
Also, what are the options enabled in the Motion blur tab?
The more steps we have the longer it would take to generate the images plus memory.

cheers
Kind Regards
