Re: DEFAULT SETTINGS FOR RENDER

Out of curiosity, at which aspect ratio?
To elaborate (for those who may requisite it)

Some of them are defined in popular "standards", others much less or not at all.

For instance (to demonstrate with a few examples), 2K (DCP), 4K (UHD, DCI) while 6K is typically an arbitrary camera maximum ...

Re: Combining HDRI lighting and closed space reflections in Octane Render

I'm trying to keep the natural HDRI lighting for reflections on the car surface, but the tunnel geometry seems to override that.

The Ray Switch slider in question was set to .5, one could think of it as "50% opacity", if at maximum value (0-1) the result is either tunnel reflection or HDRI ...

Re: Combining HDRI lighting and closed space reflections in Octane Render

Has anyone managed a clean workaround without losing realism?

It's not plausible ("realistic") to begin with.
The tunnel, unless see-through (glass) is an obstruction to what's outside of it (street lights, sky, sun, moon reflection, and so forth).

The most control and likely most suited ...

Re: Combining HDRI lighting and closed space reflections in Octane Render

The "best method" is subjective as it highly depends on 1. the level of simplicity, 2. expectations and 3. technical requirements.

Render layers and post-compositing are also two drastically different and viable paths.

One potential and relatively straightforward solution that wasn't cited (or may ...

Re: I've tried to set up ACES multiple times using the linked method, and it never works.

For most users, if you need ACES output, it is simplest to enable the ACES Tonemapping option in Octane Camera > Imager > ACES Tone Mapping . No other settings are necessary, as Octane will automatically tonemap the image to conform to ACES output via standard sRGB.

Re: Is Light Linking really effective?

I want to optimize lighting performance while maintaining spatial depth in the headset. Does this method help improve rendering speed or reduce noise effectively in stereo VR?

VR output would be treated identically to a regular render output in regard to sampling optimization.

"Spatial depth ...

Re: I've tried to set up ACES multiple times using the linked method, and it never works.

There is still a possibility for the Guide page to be out-dated if there was any consequential changes to Octane-C4D (plugin version).
Confirming this would require the consultation of the latest release notes of the plugin version.

The ACES 1.3 OCIO config-file is seemingly working as expected in ...

Re: I've tried to set up ACES multiple times using the linked method, and it never works.

Before going through the hassle of setting it up, is ACES an absolute necessity?
No contextual information were given.

In general and for most, it isn't necessary and in fact, problematic. It's quintessentially an abiding debacle.
Absolutely fair if the reason is, as often the case , an ...

Re: Fog and opacity texture issue

To the list of viable (for some, pseudo-)solutions: compatibility mode (if available).

Upon further investigating, loading an older project made the compatibility option available and was changed to 2021.1,
yielding expected results (the pop up info box details about it).

The Vol. Step. L was ...

Re: Fog and opacity texture issue

It was very clear.

This is simply a trouble-solving exploration of all direct and indirect paths to gain as much information to help, and as a matter of fact, the issue persists with the Unit Volume (VDB-like, containing voxel data).

It's not a "new issue" but was due to a double-check in 2024 ...
