Re: Home stuff
Really beautiful renders there - there's a sharpness and smoothness in them that is uncharacteristic of most GPU renders - I really look forward to seeing some of these in an interior setting, would it be possible to list the original render resolution and render times?

Re: Object Smoothing
This is exactly what I was trying to say in the last posts... the problem is that you are using a subdivision effect rather than a "baked/collapsed" mesh - there is absolutely no way that it is possible that octane (or anything else) would "unsmooth" a mesh that was properly baked into a high poly ...

Re: Object Smoothing
Guys I promise you it's just a question of it not baking the subdivision into the mesh - it's not smoothing groups, it's actual subdivision smoothing that for some reason isn't being imported - I dont use LW but look on google for baking/collapsing/exporting sub-d meshes - you can see on the "smooth ...

Re: Object Smoothing
The above shots look like a problem I encountered in other apps previously - when you export a model with a subdivision smoothing modifer applied (nurms or otherwise) it isn't applied to the output .obj file...

Re: Best video card for Octane
From what I understand the scene needs to be loaded into all graphics cards that are running, as the latency moving from mainboard ram to vram is too great - this means that the lowest active GPU memory size determines the maximum scene you can render, which means for the 590 will only be able to ...

Re: Best video card for Octane
Hi, I'm in the same position as the OP above - I've found that the GTX 560 is sold in a 2GB ram version too (gainward et al), for around half the price of a single 3GB GTX 580 (palit or gainward), two 560's, according to my 'calculations' should be around 1/3rd faster than a single 3GB 580.. as long ...

Re: General Questions:
Thank you guys for the responses, very much appreciated!
It's really good to know that resolution won't be too much of a problem, even if I could reliably render out at 4000 x 3000 I can use resampling software to increase that about 1.5x with no visible problems.. Same goes for fireflies, I don't ...

Dear all,
I've worked in the field of archiviz and CGI for digital media and animation for the past 8 years, in that time I have probably spent several thousand hours (at least) setting up unbiased renders for production, I'm now going through the process of migrating to the unbiased GPU rendering ...
