Re: OctaneRender® 1.0 beta2.46b [CURRENT] >>> download here <<<

New Octane crashes a lot:

I simply started Octane and browsed the liveDB material list.
It seemed just after the settings for a material are downloaded this happens:

normal vs bump mapping

Hi this might sound a little strange

but I sofar saw bump mapping (displacement) for rendering
and normal mapping for openGL real-time applications.

Does normal mapping provide a better outcome for rendering
compared to > 8 bit bump mapping?

I am little confused here ;)

Re: Octane 2.3 final will not have MLT.

Hey guys

I read some disappointment here and there and just wanted to leave on opinion here.

Bunkspeed Shot, which license the IRay (Mental Images) is offering just plain path tracing.
I am also not aware of any other engine - but I might be wrong here - but pretty sure.

GPU is just not CPU, but ...

Speed Comparison Octane render VS Bunkspeed Shot

Hi all,

I was on a Product Design conference today and was looking at a demo of Bunkspeed Shot
running on a pimped out PC.

The guy loaded a diamond scene and I noticed that well with that good hardware under the
hood Bunkspeed Shot was not that fast.

Did anybody do a speed comparison between ...

Re: Mac Pro

I have to jump in here and just set on thing straight.

It is not Apple's fault that NVIDA has their hardware based on old technology
and not really that good driver support.

This results into a bottleneck for MacPros which is a fact - and a reason why I do not consider this direction.
Keep in mind ...

Re: 2.3 release and roadmap

get healthy radiance

the gallery of octane just exploded in quality work.
I do not see the same with hypershot.

New MacBookPro graphic card selector and gfxCardSelector

Hi

if you got a new MacBookPro with those build in intel chips for low
power consumption Octane might not find the GT330 card you
have for high performance work.

you can get gfxCardStatus, install it and select manually to use
the NVIDIA card.

Re: Octane Render 1.022 beta2.2 RC2 available for testing

Rhino OBJ import works fine.

The skylight also updates automatically.

Smooth also works fine from the Rhino export.

The Blender export can react differently.

Re: Octane Render 1.022 beta2.2 RC1 available for testing

Rhino Materials are not imported.
Blender imports the 3d mesh with the material colors assigned.

Upon quitting the software it takes quite a long time for it
to actually shut down, roughly 20 seconds.
