Hi Radiance-
How do you get time to build this fantastic program when you are answering these questions so quickly? ;)
Thanks- I felt silly just asking if the drivers were needed, but figured there was a slight chance I could get around it...haha, guess not.
Also, if you're primary GPU is an ATI ...

Re: external graphics cards?
hi tanuki,
Personally, as a hardware geek, I'd say the GPUX/external GPU thing is really really cool, but ultimately not your best solution (well, if money is an issue).
You could build a box for less than $200 and drop in whatever GPU you want, plus have the convenience of a real, working ...

Possible to render from non-active, secondary vid card?
Hi all-
Hoping to give Octane a try in the near future, however at the office we have zero Nvidia cards, due to them destroying network profiles (somehow...this is actually a "known issue" that Nvidia refuses to fix so far).
So, I would like to bring in my personal GTS 250 and drop it in one of ...

Re: WIP Lighting Challenge #22: The Carnival
Hi- beautiful work!
I have to say though, I liked the originals best. The first renders were gorgeous...now it just seems too busy, and faked. Less is often more...and all those vines/etc look kinda silly. In reality, those would never get up there...not that I've seen anywho, except in a tropical ...

Re: My little Octane Benchmark
Oh, and it IS a competitor!
If we could get the same quality image, in less time, plus the huge advantage of a realtime viewport- this would save hours upon hours of work (and frustration). We use Vray RT, but it's not all that great, and Vray GPU seems to be slowww dev.
The issue is, the hours ...

Re: My little Octane Benchmark
Sam- haha, yes, of course this is not really an exact comparison.
Maybe I should clarify- a benchmark to compare the time taken to get an image of equal quality and appearance from both.
Obviously there area billion and 1 factors that could fudge the numbers around, but if it's something like 10 ...

Re: My little Octane Benchmark
Hi cecofuli, thanks for posting this!
I work at a 3D architectural studio that uses Vray, and have been, well...nagging them, haha, about GPU rendering for a while. Octane looks very promising, and has caught their attention, but there are no direct comparisons between it and Vray for speed.
Any ...
