Re: Refractive Software (Octane), purchased by Otoy.

I'm fully aware of how long PRMan has been in development. My point was not to make any kind of direct comparison, only to respond to the comment that I should try out a renderer that costs $1k (I have, and the experience was extremely productive).

I didn't come here to dump on Octane. I wouldn't ...

Re: Refractive Software (Octane), purchased by Otoy.

I'm sorry, but what are you complaining for?! Octane costs 99 Euros, which is NOTHING compared to what it offers, even if it's far for being complete. [...] Sure, there are lots of features missing, and lots of bugs, but for the price we paid, it is great.
Octane is still far from being a viable ...

Re: Refractive Software (Octane), purchased by Otoy.

I guess this is everyone's reward for two years of waiting: the chance that Octane might be usable in many people's actual workflows. All we have to do is wait some more, shell out another $130 for a plugin to our software package of choice, then wait some more for the day OTOY ships Octane 1.0.

Re: eyeing up octane for our studio.

At the moment, using Octane is a bit like drag racing. It's very fun to use and extremely fast at what it does (unbiased pathtracing for photorealistic renders) but it lacks the flexibility and broad feature set of more mature renderers such as mental ray. The developers at Refractive are very ...

Re: Cubix GPU-Expander for Octane Render

Hi Eric, great to have you on the boards and thanks for the answers. Definitely a sweet product and I hope the Octane + GPU-X combo makes a big splash at SIGGRAPH this year. The smaller booths always have a couple great surprises!

Re: Need suggestion on Power Supply

At full load/max draw, the 260 + 470 should pull almost 400W (180W+215W). That leaves 125W for your CPU, motherboard, hard drive(s), optical drive, and case fans, which is definitely pushing the limits of your PSU... assuming it even has enough on the 12V rail to power both cards. You will probably ...

Re: Cubix GPU-Expander for Octane Render

Thanks for the heads up, glad it's working well. I saw Radiance did some tests and noticed almost no difference in speed with both cards running off the same PCI-E slot (just slightly longer initial load times), which is great to hear.

Re: Cubix GPU-Expander for Octane Render

I'm curious if Cubix plans on offering the GPU-X without the GTX 260? I imagine a lot of people here would be interesting in paying a bit less for the bare box, as most are probably planning to fill it with GTX 4xx cards and would rather not be forced to purchase an older card. Anything that gets ...

Hi, does this mean that if we are using a camera that doesn't have an aim, it won't be translated to Octane correctly?
