Re: REGION RENDER extremely important
My friend and I were incredibly excited for the area render feature in 2.0 because we thought it would be useful for production of our 3D motion comics. We use overlays of images within frames to present static images in a more dynamic way and make it seem like action is occurring, while still ...

Re: Area Render not refreshing?
Paul, I sent you a PM with a detailed description with examples from our project to explain the issue. Thanks in advance for your help.
Can you link us to the Otoy devs thread that discusses the slower rendering speed using area render? I want to understand why this is.

Re: Area Render not refreshing?
Paul,
I didn't read the dev's response to why the MSamples/Sec would decrease when using area render, and frankly that number isn't of interest to me. What is of interest is exactly what Xipomus is describing.
In a normal workflow, the user would start a render and, after a few samples/pixel ...

Re: OctaneRender® for Poser (Windows) - build 1.50 [STABLE]
So I've changed all the alpha nodes back to greyscale. My problem was hardware. After working with Paul directly, it turns out that my 16 GB of RAM and my SSD with only 3 free GB of space were causing serious problems with Octane since I was topping out my physical memory use at 97% and Octane wasn ...

Re: OctaneRender® for Poser (Windows) - build 1.50 [STABLE]
Finally upgraded to this latest version from 1.20 due to that old 'stable' version having an utterly broken hotpixel removal tool (and plus I was mid-project). I imported a scene I've been working on and started making it version 1.5 compatible, meaning I started rescaling my tiling diffuse and bump ...

Re: NEW: OTOY previews OctaneRender™ version 2.0, further advancing thescience of CG rendering
Ok, I'm happy about the additions and all, but the excitement seems a little much. I mean "shut up and take my money" and people crapping their pants? Uh, we're supposed to be getting features that competing packages already have, like displacement — features that have been holding Octane back from ...

Re: NEW: OTOY previews OctaneRender™ version 2.0, further advancing thescience of CG rendering
I am very excited for this but am also wondering if the release version that is expected in April will be the fully functional one. Octane 1.5 was over a year in development... how did you get all the 'heavy' features of 2.0 out so fast? Or is it all lip-service so you can hype people up at the ...

Can we get rid of the 30 minute reactivation wait?
I'm using this in a production environment and losing 30 minutes as I have to wait to reactivate from one PC to the next is wasting time. Also, I've heard people say that time is money. So, the 30 minute wait is costing me money. Stop that.
Here's what I did with my wasted time. Thanks, guys ...

Re: Which feature do you need the most?
Renderpasses are crucial when using octane in a production.
I would really love to see that.
This. "Crucial" is a bit of an understatement, however. "Essential" is more like it.
