Are you on PC or Mac?
Tested on my Win10 laptop and I can rename and then change parameters without triggering any transfer.
Is there a specific scene showing the issue?

If you exported your animation in STandAlone using the ORBX format, just select the Batch Rendering option in the Script menu.

You can export a Blender scene in Octane StandAlone using the ORBX format. It will export hair as well.

What Octane is offering for edge rendering at the moment is a fresnel effect, that of course in certain cases can show its limitations.
OTOY is totally aware of the issue.
I totally agree that a solution similar to what Sketch&Toon offers may be a very nice addition to the Octane NPR toolset.

Guys, are we not able to displace fibers etc? I was under the impression that fiberfx/octane hair created UVs on the fly, and thus could be displaced... my ropes (et al) would look infinitely better if I could displace these mofos...

Be sure to have an Octane Volume Medium node attached to the Volume input of the Material Output, and play with the values.
The ones you see in the attachment should let you see something more similar to some smoke than to a cube!
