Will see how work gets on with trying out Maya first on Linux before I go that way.
Would really like to give Octane a go, so use to using Max/Maxwell Render that it's hard to break the work flow & habits - haaaa haaaa

I want to get away from the Windows environment altogether as stated in previous posts, I've had a play with Blender & don't like it, my works looking at going the Linux way also and are speaking about getting Maya. I've had a read of the latest Maya plugin but that looks like it's only for Windows ...

Thank you...the light bulb finally came on :lol: :lol:
Apply a default material in Blender then export to Octane VOILA all my layers/items appear in Octane....so use to simply pulling in a model/creating a model in MAX or CD4 without materials then into Maxwell Render.
Now to replicate my Maxwell ...

I've searched high & low on Google on how to set up a simple Blender camera & does it tell you that anywhere !!!!!
Gees a totally different workflow & procedure & YES the model shows up in Octane (angelic music starts playing in the background)

Narcissic Camera Screen Dump...
I can render the camera view with the normal blender render command with no errors, as soon as I do Octance render error message.

Right I took Blender out of the equation...
Steps
1. Export obj from Max 2011 all objects named accordingly (Windows)
2. Import obj into Octane direct (Linux) - still have to zoom out about 10 mouse wheel scrolls using "shift" before I find it
3. Octane doesn't retain layer names
