Well, i think you should use two graphics cards. Use a fermi card for your render card and if money is no object then use a quadro for your display/modelling card. Thats what I do. Quadros are great for autodesk and adobe support but Octane just needs a good fast card with lots of Cuda cores ...

The card is good. The solution you ask about is to use two cards, one cheap one like your 9800 for the display card and the grunty one just for the rendering.
