Re: OCTower

GTX580 uses around 200-240 watt, so multiply that x 8, plus add some for rest of your PC --> so I would say you prob need 2400 watt . that's 2 x 1200W supplies.
If you use GTX590 you need 240-300W peak ...

I would say the ideal winter project - will save on heating (if you have solar panels ) !

Re: Octane scene's to share for benchmarking

thx - formula is handy to know. Have already done benchmarks with the "star wars tunnel", but looking for more complex scenes for octane to test in short term, like the interiour scene that was used to demo the 8 GPU setup.

I am looking for complete scenes to load into Octane 2.52 for benchmarking. I hear a lot of people point out that 1.5Gb is limited for rendering and would like to 1) understand what fits in 1.5G and what the difference is with scenes that take 2-3Gb; 2) would use the 1.5G / 3Gb scene's to benchmark ...

Re: OCTower

If you are interested, I know a shop who is getting a whole set of msi lightning extreme GTX580 3Gb in stock - in Belgium. Sad to hear the GTX590 does not overclock more than 5%. Which one did you try ? I have the eVGA Classified. Will be able to try overclocking over the weekend.

What are your ...

Re: OCTower

Any update on the OCTower progress or even test results - like how far have you've been able to overclock the GTX580, and what effect does it have on Octane's M/sec speed ?

Where did you find the PCIe extension cables ? My hardware shop claims it is very fragile.
Has anyone got experience with ...

Re: new Rig for 4-8 GPU Setup - X79 or P6T7 ?

gabrielefx: yep, the 2CPU option in 3 is a Tyan 4U rack I found. rack itself costs 2550 GBP. You need to add cost of GPU's, CPU's and mem. 2xPSU, MBrd and case with vent are already included. So what I am saying is that I estimate price of the fully configured Tyan around 4000 Eur plus cost of GPU's ...
