Re: Problems seeing through transparent materials
Before spending tons of time tweaking down the materials, make sure your lighting is setup to match the photography. It looks like you might have one large soft light up above and left, but the inner circles of the camera ( behind the glass ) don't seem to reflect as many little lights as in the ...

Re: Arroway texture
The invert doesn't quite work because the values will be way off with white being a roughness value of 1... It's an issue I've found to be incredibly challenging when working with image based roughness maps in octane. I've posted about it before, but now there's more people who can maybe help out ...

Re: Playing around with the demo.
So you post your "work" and wait 3 weeks, no on replies. You reply to it complaining no on replied, so mlody takes the time out of his day to write out what he can for advice on making it better. And you whine about it?
And then you say you aren't going for a career and weren't looking for advice ...

Re: RichDirt plugin
From what I have played with so far richDirt uses procedural maps inside the plugin, but it might work with render to texture then duplicate geometry and use multiply node in octane, like decals as Mbekte said. Then you'd have a bit more control over it then just as a re-composite in photoshop ...

I would like to assign what gpu renders the sphere preview and decide how many passes or kernels to use.
The standalone sphere preview was more efficient.
The Max sphere preview has not so much detail. I never use it.

Re: Stargate: Universe
That looks like a great canidate for ptex, lots of annoying wierd edges to unwrap in UV editor, so much easier with ptex and mudbox/mari/etc.
Hopefully one day octane supports ptex.
Until then, on trick i just though of would be rending it out with DL, using one white material and adjust the AO ...

Re: Daylight system has strong color cast
Switch to pathtracing or PMC kernel and see if that corrects it.
If so, then it's a known problem with direct lighting and drives me nuts as well. Any object that is facing up towards the sky receives too much of the blue color from the sky, even if it's not glossy.
Often times I don't need PMC for ...
