Re: is OCIO color management broken in the imager?
I was incorrect, it does visually look better but I did not manage to fix it. So, in the render view the whites blow out and the contrast is still wrong. It is subtle but still wrong. I have the viewport set to linear-srgb sso it should not be double color managing. I am not really sure what is ...

Re: is OCIO color management broken in the imager?
Just fixed it. It was in fact a me problem. I failed to set the render color space. Once I did that it works fine.

is OCIO color management broken in the imager?
Perhaps I am configuring this incorrectly, however, something does seem wrong to me. I am currently using 2022.1.2-21.30 in Maya 2024, and I am attempting to viewport render. I have the color management for the 3D viewport panel set to Linear sRGB, and set my camera imager OCIO view to use AgX ...

Can we expect support for USD materials in maya soon?
Specifically I am curious about lookdevX which is I believe new to 2023/2024. I skipped 2023 straight to 2024 so I may have missed it sooner. That said I know it might not be available immediately, but I am curious if it will be possible to make and export USD files using Octane materials soon. As ...

Re: Server Studio frequent crashes on render start
If you have a scene (the simpler, the better) showing the issue you can share that would help!
Thanks!
That's where it gets dicey. It isn't something easy to replicate and I can't provide my current scene since it is work related. It only happens in complex scenes and frequently the scene will ...

Re: Thin layer of water looks very dense
It appears that the caustics path are here, since it's the PT kernel at (excessively) high ray depths and low caustics blur (recommended to be maxed out with PT and lowered to nearly 0 with Photon Tracing).
Similarly to this scene .
Hence why I'm circling back to a possibly weak light source.

Re: Thin layer of water looks very dense
Just a few quick examples. Now, I played around with the PMC kerenl and it is still a little dark, but lighter than without it. It is certainly more physically accurate, where as the threshold between the interfaces decreases the result gets darker and as the distance gets greater it gets brighter ...

Re: Thin layer of water looks very dense
Thank you for checking this, Jason!
I turned it to black and it still looks unnaturally dark. I also unhooked all other nodes and it's still doing this:
scene_rendered_zero_reflection.PNG
material_setup_2.PNG

Tim

Re: Figuring out Translucency Shading when Scattering Dust
I followed Cornelius Dammrich's explanation and SilverWings Youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMygCctQIFc) on scattering dust but modified it for Blender Octane. Basically, I just created a low poly icosphere and applied the material below to it.

Re: Server Studio frequent crashes on render start
Unfortunately there seem to be a few issues that cause Blender to shut down when starting rendering (or preview). It would be great if the devs could maybe post a little list of issues that cause Blender to crash at the moment. It doesn't necessarily have to do with drivers.
