Re: Refractive Software® is discontinuing Cubix Xpander support
Perhaps, but I doubt that the Tianhe-IA and its 7,168 Nvidia Tesla M2050 are using Cubix Xpander boxes for running its 2.507 petaFLOPS.

Re: Refractive Software® is discontinuing Cubix Xpander support
Carl, it is physically impossible that PCI 1.0 is as fast as PCI 2.0 even onto medium scenes. Roubal said on another post:
If you consider that the tested scene weights only 290MB, on a PCIe x 16 (even if it is a 1.0) the loading time(so, the transfer speed of the PCIe link) seems to be a very ...

If there is nothing indicated, i think it should be PCI gen 1.0, so it remains very expensive as an external solution, to my view. For now, according to what i saw here and there, external ...

Re: Refractive Software® is discontinuing Cubix Xpander support
Well, i don't know where you see for workstation building but i found yesterday evening on the net a respectable company which proposes a basic workstation configuration with 3 GTX 480 for $3000, PCI 2.0, and with good materials otherwise. In a dekstop-like computer box, not as a big cube. Still too ...

Anyway, Carl, the EVGA Classified Super Record 2 (SR-2) Motherboard is also 4 way SLI and supports 3x nVidia® EVGA® GeForce® GTX 480 in PCIe 2.0.

Re: Refractive Software® is discontinuing Cubix Xpander support
Well, i didn't know what was Crysis 2 until today, i'm not really a gamer, but building a computer for GPU rendering may be interesting, so i'm looking at what one can do actually
Now, it is a question of reliability: i saw a config with seven GTX260 on an Asus supercomputer motherboard, but what ...

Re: Refractive Software® is discontinuing Cubix Xpander support
I don't build my machines either (and they're certainly not sitting in a basement). I just pick the parts, and the store puts them together, with full warranty of course.
Hello Chris, do you speak about a future computer setup that you expect to build or do you have already built a machine ...

Re: Refractive Software® is discontinuing Cubix Xpander support
With the latest Asus motherboard, you could place your 4 GTX 480 in one single machine, but in PCIe 2.0 (double speed and bandwidth comparatively to PCIe 1.0). It has 7 PCI-E Gen2 x16 and supports also 4 dual-GPU cards.
And you won't believe it: a dual GPU Nvidia GTX480 is on the go

Re: Refractive Software® is discontinuing Cubix Xpander support
I added almost the same thing for $3,800 to a existing machine. Plus I have a display card.
For a $3,800 budget, one could buy interesting computers with such motherboards as this one:
