FOrest Pack Pro works well with Octane. You have to use the FOrestTools and make all forest objects to instances and then select all the stuff and make it a movable proxy. :)


Can you expand on this. I am trying to figure this out too.
I assume your using the 3dsmax plugin v.300?

Please, we need functioning ability to use either multiscatter or forest pack. Please consider iToo forest pack as it's a valuable resource for us who render millions of scattered objects. Right now Octane cannot be used with this tool.

What are your thoughts about multiscatter support?

The current workflow for instances brings max to a near halt, and painting instances by hand is very slow.

Since multiscatter does not work with Octane, hand painting these objects is very hard and tedious. Using the graphite tool works, but it takes much memory.


What I need to know is if you used the MAXplugin, and if so what version?

I really would like multiscatter or vray grass to work - is this ...

I have finally (after weeks of work) figured out Octane enough to be pretty proficient at it,and now my quest is to create a realistic skin shader.
What was missing from my skin being realistic was the "3D" effect of real skin and pores and subtle skin defects.

As Roeland mentioned is is a fail to keep it in SLI- your memory in complex scenes will be a HUGE issue.
I have 2 GTX 590 and 1 580 (3GB)

Disabled multi GPU in driver and all works as it should.

Selecting all GPU's report correct video RAM. Ok so now Iown a few more GPU's - so these wil be used for the other 2X6core 5690 XEON SR-2 system.
So one system has 2X 590's and the other has 2X 580 (3GB), so I'm fine with that.

Ok update -

GTX 480 + GTX 590 work well when you only run GPU1 of the 590 and GPU of 480. Memory left is ~1300MB - that's ok
Now if I select 590 BOTH GPU,480 turned off, then memory ~600MB - VERY BAD!

So it appears if you want optimal performance, you need two SEPARATE video cards,not a multiGPU ...
