Re: Just how much can I fit into 4 Gb?
Haha! Nice, though I was referring to the xeon family
. If the memory situation proves to not be to big of an issue though, I see no need to go that route (nor would i want to with such poor ocability).

Re: Just how much can I fit into 4 Gb?
Alright thanks,
it is much appreciated; and no I do not intend on putting this system together until everything is working properly, and as far as I know the 4gb version is not even available for purchase yet. I also want to see what Ivy bridge has to offer as far as overclock ability goes, since ...

Just how much can I fit into 4 Gb?
Hey guys,
just wondering if anyone could give me a rough estimate of how big a scene I could hypothetically cram into 4 gb of vram.. I read a post over on another forum by a man claiming to have done a scene with a few 8k textures and about 8 million polys on a 4gb quadro 5800 without issue in ...

Re: What will pci-e 3.0 hold for octane?
I just emailed them, I will post back with their reply as soon as possible in case anyone else is also curious about pci-e 3.0.
I really don't see quadro or tesla cards as a very good solution especially with the massive price hike bound to accompany such cards lol.
Ntm good luck finding full cover ...

What will pci-e 3.0 hold for octane?
Hi all,
just wondering if the upcoming release of pci-e 3.0 cards will open up any doors as far as far as the ability to share vram between gpus goes. I know there are issues with bandwidth limitations and the amount of traffic that would be generated from sharing vram on pci-e 2.0/2.1, but pci-e 3 ...

Re: Memory management
What you say is true, but obviously using only vram to render on the gpu right now is not a feasible solution for people looking to do anything further than rendering a simple scene. I just think that adding the feature would be good just as a fall back because as we all know the amount of vram on a ...

Re: Memory management
really doubt that. octane is for example about 5 times faster than luxrender on an i7 quad (roughly/depending on/etc.).

Take a look at what these guys are working on: http://www.centileo.com/news.html Even barely using any vram they still can get a ...

Re: Memory management
I really hope that the devs for octane add the ability to page out of core memory in the future. It may not be easy, nvidia has done it on the quadro and tesla.. Even better the people working on CentiLeo have pulled it off on a GTX 480. Obviously paging to system ram will kill your perf, but it is ...

A few questions regarding Octane
Hey there guys i have 2 questions regarding what seems to be a very good rendering engine. The first one is will octane use all of the vram in an sli configuration? The second is does octane support out of core memory paging to system ram/are there any plans to do so in the future?
Thanks!
Thanks!
