Right now the team is hard at work on Octane X | PR1.1 which will include fixes for the bugs reported to so far in PR1, and integrate general changes/fixes being made in tandem with 2020.1.5 CUDA.
Based on feedback, we are talking to apple/AMD folks about whether it may be possible to back-port ...

Regarding eGPUs, my experience is anything beyond two puts you in the realm of a lot of extra cost for not a lot of extra performance, for reasons alluded to earlier (controller limitations). If using a 15 or 16" MBP (say 2017 or later), plug one eGPU into each side of the Mac after you've booted it ...
