yes, there is no mesh emitter in the demo; it a beta 2.3 feature.
(in commercial, you just increase the emission in any diffuse material)

Re: resolution in demo version
Well, changing the resolution shouldn't be possible at all in the demo? I was pretty sure it was locked at 1024*512...
So the crash is not normal, but it is normal that you can't use other resolutions.

Re: burning questions
1. Currently Octane only renders meshes (faces, no edges) imported from .obj files. So if your 3d application can export hair as mesh, octane can probably render it.
2. Again: You can render imported meshes; So fluids will work, smoke probably not, since you need density. Note that absorption is ...

Re: Questions from another potential customers
Yep, what Jaba said is right, just that Octane live will be more than a material library in the future - things like online rendering or other online features will be integrated (rendering not is sure, but other things the team didn't want to tell yet will come).

Re: lighting in octane
i don't know much about the 250, but since the 470 has 3.5 times the number of cuda cores and a better architecture, it should be much faster.
if your mainboard has two pcie slots you might want to keep that 250 to use this card for display and the 470 for rendering. (to speed up the interface ...

Re: lighting in octane
Hi,
right now in the commercial beta 2.3 v5 you can either use
hdri (+ mesh emitters) or
sun (+ mesh emitters)
hdri + sun in one render will be added, currently you have to mix two renders in photoshop (or other software) to get such an effect.

Re: render resolution with 768mb card
No, I use two cards, because I have 3 monitors; This setup unfortunately doesn't improve the interface speed.
I can't say how long it takes, it depends too much on the scene. However you can use the demo and extrapolate it, because the Sample/sec speed doesn't change with the resolution. (note ...

Well, I used a sample scene at 2560*1600 and looked up the used memory in Octane: Account Preferences > Cuda Devices:
RenderTarget film 82mb

Re: render resolution with 768mb card
Yes, the rendered image at this size will require ~80mb, so there's a lot of space for meshes and textures left.
The limitation in Octane is currently at 8k*8k, however you would need more memory for that.

Re: External links
You can also press the middle mouse button to open the link in a new tab, if you want a single click solution.
I always do it like that and therefore think that the current solution is better: Middle click when you want to stay on the current page, left click when you want to change the page.
