Re: Crsh with Multthreaded scene extraction
FYI I have found that if NVLink is disabled multi-threaded scene extraction works. But if NVLink is enabled, kaboom.

Re: OctaneRender 2020.2 LightWave Production build 2020.2.3.1
The multi-thread extraction feature that was broken in build 2020.2.3 is still broken in 2020.2.3.1 if NVLink is enabled, but if I disable NVLink it seems to work OK. A typical scene that I am using for testing took 38 seconds to load before rendering began in OctaneRender 2019.1.4. It now ...

Thank you, Juanjgon! It is a pity, however, that spotlight is not available yet. It would be very useful to me now )

Re: ORBX Scatter issues
Was this glitch ever resolved? What turned out to be the problem and how did you fix the issue? I was considering use of RNDR for a scene that uses scattering, but after reading about all of the problems people are having with RNDR (and the long stretches of time between when a post is made and when ...

Re: Focal length motion blur; keyframing focal point; help docs?
^^^ That's what I thought of too, but what do you plug into the "From" and "To" inputs on the Distance node? The Render Target editor (which is the context where you use the ThinLens node) sits above all of the other objects and items in a LightWave scene, so how would one go about getting the ...

Re: Focal length motion blur; keyframing focal point; help docs?
OK, now I have a slightly different problem: I have a shallow depth of field in a scene I'm working on, and I want to manually rack focus (i.e., I'm not using autofocus). The ThinLens camera doesn't have an envelope on the "Focal Depth" setting (which is really focal distance ) though, so there ...

Re: Diffuse Color of Instances based on ID Index
This isn't a random shading effect. I have aircraft that each have different tail numbers, and slightly varying normals, roughness, etc. to vary the surfaces. But under the covers they're all the same object. Random shading won't work; I have t know which instance is which because each aircraft is ...

Re: Diffuse Color of Instances based on ID Index
Juanjo, was runtime support for the LightWave instance node ever fixed? I want to apply different Octane Texture Image textures to a set of 10 objects in my scene based on instance ID, and I'm darned if I can figure out a way to do this other than to create 10 separate copies of the object, which ...

Re: Lightwave Plugin Manual update?
I hear you, believe me. I did a month-long C4D evaluation last year and could never get the hang of it, but I don't think I was really trying. Much as I hate LightWave, it's what I'm used to and it gets the job done on the Modeler side. Quite frankly though, if it hadn't been for OctaneRender I ...

Re: Opaque object behind specular material causes lots of noise
AHA! It's caustics that are causing the problem--specifically, the caustics of light coming through the windscreens and striking the blast shields. After I posted this I tried using the Direct kernel and the problem disappeared (along with the more interesting-looking refraction effects on the ...
