If it happens with any scene, maybe try enabling the 550 and then disable the option "Use for tonemapping" for the 1070 and let me know what happens.
Hi, I did that (tested on Octane bundled test scenes) and the 1070 still fails (but at least it doesn't hang in this case):

I have issues with the standalone version on Linux (Mint 18.1) - it wont render. I have recently installed a GTX 1070 and fresh Linux install with 375.26 proprietary Nvidia drivers. When I try to render with Octane 3.05 & 3.04 it hangs, repeating this error over and over:

I used RR now on a real project, and yeah it does the job nice enough - render the whole image to some X samples and then correct the problematic areas with RR. Tho, there's two problems:

I'm confused as how to use the "region render" feature. When I select the region, the projected render time stays exactly the same as if it would be sampling the whole frame. Multiplying or mixing two textures (grayscale) and then using the product for displacement, doesn't work. It does nothing (while both textures separately work ok).

Dunno if this was posted, or if it's an actual bug and not just how things are supposed to work, but the Object Layer node doesn't work (has no effect), if you put a Placement node before it. But everything works properly if you put the Placement node after Object Layer Map.
