The question is: does it work in 5.1/Cycles?
No, it does not
The developer of HDRLS told me that they currently do not support Blender 5.1 - just up to Blender 5.0, because there is an issue with Blender 5.1 on Mac OS, which hasn't been resolved yet.
It is just the latest release of HDRLS + Blender Plugin. It worked fine with Blender 4.5 LTS and Octane 2025 and does not work with Blender 5.0 and Octane 2026 anymore.
I guess that it is a simple issue, because the link between HDRLS and Blender is just a temporary ...
Hey David, when you say “the same procedure every year”, what do you mean exactly? Just waiting for OTOY to catch up after the macOS release, or do you usually follow some specific workaround in the meantime?
I mean the annual tradition of a new major OS release that seems to be completely ...
I usually achieve this with a specular material.
Refractive index set to 1.0, reflection color set to black, then just adjust the roughness and that should be it.
I have an internal benchmarking scene for our computers and I cannot believe my eyes.
M4 Max with Octane 2024.1: 39 sec.
M4 Max with Octane 2025.1 Beta: 24 sec.
I'm running both the regular Octane version and the new add-on version of the plug-in, because I need the vanilla version of blender (the custom build refuses to install several other add-ons)
However ... the Octane add-on version seems to be very laggy compared to the regular version ...
