Resend scene data - why can't I see scatter object?

I'm trying to use a scatter object to distribute some Forester grass across a landscape. As I have read on other threads, I need to check "resend all scene data" in order to see the animation of the Hyperwind effect which makes sense. In the live viewer window the grass appears to be animated, but ...

Great job with the robots. If I get a DUI I know who I'm calling!

Re: Neverending "updating"

Niestudio and Ahmet,

Thank you so much for your replies. It's true, the scene was highly unoptimized. Checking "render instances" in the two cloners fixed the problem and I feel foolish for not trying that first; it's octane 101. I've been using octane scatter so long that I forgot the C4D cloner ...

Neverending "updating"

I've brought this up before (https://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=64153) and nobody ever responded. Seems like I'm the only one to suffer some of Octane's quirks, but since my issue has returned and halted all progress on a project, I feel I must mention it again. I'm begging for ...

Re: How do I speed up material previews?

I learned from a Raphael Rau tutorial that you can pause the render in the Live Viewer and that will allow all of those swatches to update on your materials since those swatches actually have to be rendered by the Octane engine; they are not cached like C4D materials probably are.

Hope this helps ...

Octane get stuck "Updating"; have to force-quit C4D

Okay, sorry for blowing up the forums this week, my schedule has had me on projects that keep presenting obstacles in octane and there's no way around, only through!

This issue is very simple, at least a few times a week Octane gets hung up on the updating step. I can save and interact with the ...

Re: Putting labels on Objects / How to use Border Mode

Mesut, this is very close to what I'm after.

I understand how to use a black and white image as a mask in a mix material, but I'm not trying to use the black and white values of the 'X' in my example in that way. Perhaps I should have chosen a colored "label" to make it clear that I want the white ...

Re: Driving parameters with Random Color

Hey, thanks for the reply.

You're definitely onto something there, but there is still an issue with the way the displacement is mapped. I cannot get the displacement to show up in UVW Projection, it has to be something like cubic, frontal, shrink wrap, etc. All of these modes handle the randomness ...

Putting labels on Objects / How to use Border Mode

I'm having trouble understanding how to do something extremely simple. I want to put a label on an object and have the base color of the object seen outside of the extents of the label - NOT black everywhere, NOT mirrored everywhere, NOT white everywhere, NOT clamped (whatever that means). I want ...

Driving parameters with Random Color

Hey guys, I'm trying to find a way to use the random color node to drive more than the usual Diffuse/Roughness/Spec settings. I'm trying to fake random displacement by mixing noise randomly, but it does not work as I would expect. This node structure seems simple and like it should work, but for ...
