Thanks all for the really solid advice. The 1080's seem to be much cheaper already but worth waiting a few days I suppose!
The X5 was already looking a bit big for my small workspace so I'm not so sure about the X9 - it looks like a tank! Although I'm sure it's definitely worth it if you're rocking ...

Triple 1080 Hybrid build advice
Hi all, after carefully studying the very helpful advice on this forum I'm about to pull the trigger on an upgrade on my system to add 3x 1080 Hybrids. Aware the Ti's are just around the corner but they look like they're going to be expensive. In any case it's quite a pricey move and I'd appreciate ...

Re: Overnight rendering and overheating
Thanks for the explanation, that makes a lot of sense. I already have a watercooled CPU (which I want to replace due to loud fan noise of the H100) however getting into custom loops is a bit nervewracking because I'm not confident I'd know what I'm doing. Unless there's an off-the-shelf way of doing ...

Re: Overnight rendering and overheating
No I'm not really familiar with any of this really, I've heard of the water-cooled cards but I had been looking at buying the standard non-water-cooled versions myself. Is that a more stable way to go in your opinion?

Overnight rendering and overheating
Hi guys
I'm getting into OctaneRender and I'm planning on modifying my system to be running two GTX 980s with the future possibility of adding a third.
The only concern I have currently is that I often leave a lot of rendering to work overnight, sometimes for several days at a time. I worry about ...

Re: Making a light invisible but keeping reflections?
Or to put it another way, is there I can make a light 'ignore' a certain object?
I'm thinking I could position the light inside my phone object and set it to ignore the phone object so it shines through. is this possible? In standard C4D I could use the compositing tag for this I believe.

Making a light invisible but keeping reflections?
I'm trying to create a fake reflection for a layer that will be composited later on. Is there a way to make a light invisible but hide the reflection?
In the first screenshot you can see the white ellipse which is the light source, it's got the reflection going on in the floor layer. Looks great ...
