Hi,
another trick is to disable all the c4d Subdivision Surface objects in the scene, and apply to them an Octane Object tag, with the same subdivision settings in the proper tab.

I'll answer my own question.

Although it's not exactly how I described, you can actually export to orbx and then bring in an orbx object in C4D. Works great.

File instance/proxy

Would be awesome if there was a place in the object tag where you could replace on render and point it to a another file of a model.

It's just a lot of models we work with are either client CAD or heavily sub-divided models sometimes copied multiple times in scene...I obviously use a low poly proxy ...

Agreed, came here to request the same thing!

Doing an animation with high poly cad file, modeled a low poly cage and animating that would be nice to swap it out for render even without using cloner just object proxy instances via tag.

Sorry for late reply was busy with another project...

This is still happening, I've tried on 2 machines now this one being the OP machine that has 2xTitan X Pascal and then my home machine which has 3x1080ti's and the same version of Octane 4...Exact same error.

D. Nvidia driver version 431.86
E. OctaneRender Standalone 4.05
F. OctaneRender plugin 4.05

H. Drag Vertex Map node in node editor and then drag the Vertex Map tag into slot via node editor, causes instant crash.

Sorry but have you tried with Standard renderer? Probably not because it's happening with that too, because it's not a BUG or UP to Octane.

Havn't used standard renderer in years so I was unaware, I wasn't insinuating that it was just Octane I just wondered why it was happening as it's been ...

When I add scene via Render Queue it still renders out to project folder even if I untick the standard save... creating an additional render sequence ...
