That hasn't been my experience. But to each their own!I don't do that. Octane understands iRay well enough it seems. I just start working on Octane Materials right away.

Re: Is this plugin going to survive the free iRay popularity?
In most cases, I lose as much or more time to material tweaking as I save from Octanes speed. For me, Iray isn't going anywhere until Octane offers MDL reading / conversion that has visual fidelity with what Iray produces. I'd rather start an Iray render and walk away knowing the Iray render is ...

Re: Is this plugin going to survive the free iRay popularity?
Otoy has been saying this for years. I hope we get a concrete update at some point in 2018.We're still mapping out the timeline for the MDL work. Once that is done, we'll be able to finalize when it's going into Octane.

Re: how is the material compatibility for daz octane?
Sorry, I meant Iray shaders (so I can customize). AFAIK there are no Octane shaders for Daz other than what's in the database.

Re: how is the material compatibility for daz octane?
The skin can come out looking pretty good if you purchase the textures from the Octane vendors. However, the optional add-ons (wet skin, etc) will probably not work without extensive modification. Same with the scenes. They need a lot of work to convert. I stopped using Octane because any speed gain ...

Re: OR MDL support - Is "open source" going to happen?
I'm in the same boat as you, linvanchene. I'm a licensed customer who doesn't ever use Octane anymore because the conversion from MDL to Octane is simply too onerous. Any reduction in render times due to better production capabilities is annihilated with having to tweak / recreate shaders.

Since then been having heaps of BSOD mainly while using DAZ with Iray. Been sending them log files but nothing really showing up. Octane was running 90 ...

Thanks, Paul. That worked. What does Ray Epsilon do, anyway?
