Great stuff! I wanted to try this new ray step increase factor thing, but could not find it. Where can I enable this?


the "Ray Step Increase Factor" is normally in the interval [0, 1], which will map to 0% to 100% as shown in the GUI.

yes. in 2024, 100% means using 1 as the step length, because if you scene was stored in 2023 format, octane will run in 2023 compatible mode.
in this mode, 100% means 1(the absolute step length).

So I was using VDB that I made in Embergen. Previously we have an option called "Volume Step Length" that was absolute as I understand. Now it's "Volume step percent" that as I understand is relative ...

Hey Zay,

I checked your scene uploaded and another even more complicated scene using upsampler 2x and 4x.
none of them crashed on my Win 10 machine.

It seems to be a Win 7 specific crash.

I have to find out a machine with Win 7 and take a look there

AI up-sampling still fails on win7 for me. It will render to the end and then all GPUs fail.

Actually I am finding that with Up-Sampling enabled, I can't use any passes, Octane becomes unstable and either sends GPUs to orange, where I have to restart the scene, but then it goes orange again as soon as I try to render with passes, or just outright crashes like it does when saving an EXR or ...

CUDA crash toggling shadow catcher pin on and off

1. Load the orbx and select the render target to start rendering
2. Select the mat1 nodegraph > diffuse material
3. Toggle shadow catcher on/off a few times

Here is my running wishlist from this XB2:
1 - 1.5x1.5 up sampling (as 3rd up-sampling option)
2 - bigger (or size-customizable) GPU list display-area in device preferences
