Regarding GDDR5X (GTX 1080) and GDDR5 (GTX 1070)
If I am rendering with Octane with, for example, two 1080s and two 1070s (SLI is disabled), what impact, if any, will there be from mixing GDDR5X and GDDR5? Will Octane go only as fast as the slower GPUs? Does it matter?
My goal is to get the most ...

Re: CUDA Cores verus speed/Memory
Does this mean that the 1080/1070, when optimized, will have better performance than GTX 690 even though it has more CUDA Cores?

CUDA Cores verus speed/Memory
Your FAQ indicates that the number of CUDA Cores directly impacts the performance of Octane. Doing some research, I found the following:
GTX 690 (Kepler): 3072 CUDA Cores
GTX 1070 (Pascal): 1920 CUDA Cores
GTX 1080 (Pascal): 2560 CUDA Cores
and so on. Does this mean that four GTX 690s would be ...

Re: GTX 1070 and Quadro M4000 combo
I appreciate the information. I have decided to use four GTX 1070 and skip the Quadro.
Having said that, in my Nvidia chat, they informed me they weren't sure it would work, but since SLI is disabled then it shouldn't matter. I guess I'm just a bit nervous about getting four GPU since these new ...

Re: GTX 1070 and Quadro M4000 combo
Hello again. I have spoken with Nvidia and they looked at your FAQs and said I should check with you to make sure that Octane can actually use four GTX 1070 simultaneously. I just wanted to make sure since this is a new GPU that is in a transitional stage of being supported by Octane. Nvidia says ...

Re: Alpha channels and animated textures
Hello and thanks for the reply. I'm still figuring out the host. Right now it will be either Maya or Blender, and I might do something in Houdini, but I agree it should be one host.
What I do is use a grayscale bitmap that is just black and white. For example black and white stripes. I use this in ...

Alpha channels and animated textures
I just now realized that Octane must use only its own materials, so I have some questions.
Does this work with animated textures? For example on a piece of geometry I animate the UV or scale of a texture. That will be ignored by Octane, right?
Are there alpha channels for materials? For example ...

Re: GTX 1070 and Quadro M4000 combo
Hi meshlife,
no problem with 3 dual slot GPU, but for four, I guess that the last two PCI slots are too near, if your case is big enough, you could try to use the m4000 in the third slot and use the other three for double slot cards, but you have to personally verify if it's possible

Re: GTX 1070 and Quadro M4000 combo
Hi meshlife,
Quadro M4000 gives a score of 54 on OctaneBench, roughly the half of a GTX 980. But when Pascal cards will be supported, the Quadro card will be very useful not assigned to Octane, leaving the 1070s only for rendering.
