Re: Diffuse SSS?
So i guess you can only have SSS with some colour in the Transmission, in Diffuse materials?
That sounds right to me. In my naive view, I think about it like transmission determining the overall transparent color, and SSS altering that overall color for thin/light-affected areas. It's likely ...

Re: Dark specular materials
The specular material in this scene is a layer of water ontop of the dirt texture. This is the final look I got through PMC, Photoshop, and much confusion. But I have no idea why it wouldn't work using direct lighting, and furthermore how to get the kind of bright, clear interior retractions in the ...

Dark specular materials
Applied to many different objects, a default specular material will show as transparent on edges or on thin sections of geometry, but darken and grow opaque the further 'inside' the geometry it goes. This is not intended for a clear, glassy material. (For SSS it is, but I'm not trying to do that ...

Re: Diffuse SSS?
It appears that diffuse materials can only use the transmission (and therefore medium node) in a Pathtracing or PMC kernel. Doesn't work at all in directlighting. Unsure if this is intended; only solution seems to be learning more about those kernels.

Re: Hair Variation? (Octane Object Tag)
Thanks! Which samples are you referring to, though? I have the xpTrail scenes you posted and I think they're uniformly thick.

Hair Variation? (Octane Object Tag)
I believe the correct way to render hair in Octane is by adding an Object Tag and using the Hair options. Unless I'm missing something, however, this only lets you choose a uniform value for thickness (see attached).

Re: 3.00 development update
Is OpenCL support an 'in progress' thing or a 'never going to happen' thing? Just asking for upgrade purposes.
OpenCL support is never going to happen, Otoy instead works on a compiler to directly use the octane Cuda code on AMD GPU and on other plateform.
