The student version does not include the integrated plugin, it is only the standalone software 1.20 you can use with your student license

for animation, the plugin is the best because you have more freedom for materials animation and so on. There is an old exporter , but you have to export the animation frame by frame, loading on GPU all the scene each frame, while plugin has option to reload only what is changing ...

So I'm going to invest in Octane! Time and patience have turned away from the coming student subscription licenses ¨¨.

As far as i know V 1.20 is only compatible with compute model 2.1 and below (if i remember correctly), it seems your GPU is too new to be recognized...
Same thing is happening with my Gtx 1080

Well that seems to clear the question - although not a fully supported version, at least it must be nearing since it is at "experimental" - so i guess i'll go for the 1080 and the extra vram following it

i am about to invest in a new gpu primarily because of better Octane performance
So = Should i buy a gtx 1080 and wait (without knowning exactly for how long) until CUDA 8 and octane support - or invest in 2 980ti now ?
I'm also wondering about Vram advantages, Cuda cores etc.
