Object don't render when there is just a dome light lighting the scene.
I wanna expand on this. This only happens when there is only one primitive rendering. To replicate it just create a rubbertoy and a dome light and render. Nothing renders. Copy the rubbertoy and merge it. It should render ...

There is a really neat feature in the old IPR, where you can pick materials in the IPR with "Shift + Click". It would be cool to bring back that functionality
