I got a friend with a review unit to run one of my scenes and the volumetric benchmark scene Beppe prepared for benchmarking. Not sure if Octane 2023.1 is using the hardware raytracing on ...

So I have news about M2 Ultra.

I managed to get the benchmark scene ran on a Mac Pro and a Mac Studio. The Mac Pro had the 60c GPU and the Mac Studio the 76c GPU.

Results are:

- Mac Pro M2 Ultra 60c GPU: 17 seconds (14 with realtime render activated)
- Mac Studio M2 Ultra 76c GPU: 15 seconds ...

Yes please, stay with Ventura for now!
In general, macOS beta versions are not supported, and the new macOS version is supported only starting from Golden Master in Autumn.

In case anyone is thinking about it, just wanted to let you know that Octane does NOT work with the MacOS Sonoma beta right now. Just tried it and it does not detect any GPU. Do not install it if you depend on Octane.

I just downloaded Octane X 2022.1.1 which mentions improved MacOS performance and I'm happy to report the improvement is HUGE.

The OctaneXBench_VolumeDenoiser scene that Beppe provided is rendering in 30 seconds on my M1 Max Macbook Pro, compared to 44 seconds on 2022.1

Okay so that's showing around 20% improvement from M1 Max to M2 Max, which is closer to Apple's claims. Interesting.
