GTX 970 still "decent" choice?

Working with Octane and Cinema 4D. It's time for me to get a better graphics card...my current GTX 650 Ti has speed that's not too bad, but only one MB of vram. The Titans are out of my price range for now, so I'm looking for something that's got 4MB vram and will render a bit faster than my current ...

Adjust shadow opacity?

I'm working with pathtracing and have a look that I'm pretty happy with, but the shadows are darker than I'd like:

Is there a way to adjust the opacity of the shadows in Octane?

Off the top of my head, I suppose that increasing the brightness of the ...

Questions about GPU VRAM between cards

I've been reading other threads about the GPU's that people are using and suggesting, but there's one thing I'm not clear on.

My limited understanding is that if you have a 2GB card and 4 GB card, Octane will use the 2GB card, since the scene has to "fit" on both cards.

What I'm not sure about, is ...

Cuda device not recognized

Something strange started happening earlier today, I'm not sure what changed, but the C4D plugin is not seeing my cuda device anymore.

In the octane Settings Panel | Devices there is nothing listed.
If I try to render I get:

Re: Onboard graphics separate from card based gpu?

So would it be possible to have a single graphics card dedicated to Octane, but use the onboard graphics for the system? Yes, this works well. You may need to enable a bios setting on you motherboard to enable this.
Paul

Thanks Paul!

Am I correct in assuming that I could also have two graphics ...

Onboard graphics separate from card based gpu?

I'm getting ready to build a new system and am looking at different configurations.

My (limited) understanding is that if you have two graphics cards, one of them can be dedicated to Octane, and the other can be dedicated to your system.
This would be an advantage to me right now, as when I render ...

Noob alert

Okay, bought the standalone/C4D combo and am getting my feet wet.

First question...can anybody recommend any tutorials/videos that they found particularly helpful when they first got started?

I'm hammering away on a lowly 650 Ti, but before I throw any money at new graphics cards, I want to learn ...

Re: Octane material that casts shadow but is unseen by camera?

Ah, thank you for the example. So all I have to do is uncheck the camera visibility box on the object tag.

Nice. I will do some more testing with the demo, but I think I'm going to have to buy this. It's crazy fast.

Octane material that casts shadow but is unseen by camera?

I'm experimenting with the demo for use with Cinema 4D. Is there a shader/material for Octane that will cast shadows from the geometry it's applied to, but will be unseen by camera?

Also, my (limited) understanding is that a scene file in C4D is basically bundled up and sent to Octane as a single ...
