C4D Octane R20 support

The studio I work at will be getting R20 as soon as it ships, and I was curious what the road map looks like for Octane support. This build of Cinema is a huge release, and has many features that will come in handy for a current project we are working on. I know some of the other GPU renderers have ...

Re: Version 3.08-test6.1 (TEST VERSION) updated on 8.12.2017

Since updating to 3.08-test6.1 from 3.07 R2, I've noticed that shaders using the triplanar mapping nodes have slowed down dramatically (from 2.5 minutes a frame to 8 minutes a frame, with no change to the shader other than verisons).

I've isolated the slowdown to triplanar, mainly because when I ...

Re: Clients crash / network rendering

This happens to me as well. No C4D shaders, but only with large files (3-4gb of VRAM, 1 gig filesize). I'll have 7-8 jobs rendering over the weekend on the network, and I have to check up on them in the middle of the night sometimes to make sure the slaves are running to finish on time. The fix is ...

Re: Particle rendering Octane tag

My guess is that the sphere in the hierarchy has the two red lights indicating it is hidden from both viewport and render. Try unchecking those lights, and moving the sphere out of view of the camera if it is in the way.

Re: Need Guidance on Painted Look

There are a few ways that can help achieve these illustrative looks:

In C4D/Octane:
Try the direct lighting mode
Saturated colors in materials
Glossy materials with high roughness and low specular
Low GI depths in your settings
No depth of field.
Hard shadows
Phong tags (set them to zero degrees or ...

Re: Why do walls increase render time?

From my experience, enclosing a space will naturally increase render times. What ends up happening is that all of those objects that originally existed in a void, now have been enclosed, and lighting and shadows have more places they need to bounce. Geometry doesn't really matter at that point ...

Re: Version 3.06

Hello--thanks for all the work on the plugin!

I am reporting this bug but fear that my report is not properly technical. Apologies in advance.

What I am seeing that that sometimes (not always) sending an animation to the picture viewer causes a hang and Octane never advances to actually rendering ...

Re: Circular Banding in Renders

I guess you need to reduce more drastically the Ray epsilon value.

I've tried that, I've gone from 0.000001to 0.1, taking them up in step by step increments. The banding never goes away. It just shifts position, like ripples coming from the center of the camera. I tried again this morning ...
