Re: Multi OBJ

The workflow is meant to be like this: You set up the geometry, UVs and basic materials in your favourite 3D app and then export it as OBJ file. Then this OBJ is loaded into Octane, where you then tweak/finetune the materials and render the whole shebang.

The main problem with multiple mesh nodes ...

Re: Multi OBJ

I'd be really interested in a technical understanding of why octane development centered around a single scene .obj file workflow? Speaking as a beginning user, multiple obj import would be considerably more intuitive for the average newbie.

The single .obj file scene approach seems counter to ...

Maya exported material names in Octane and material renaming

Relative newbie here... trying to learn my way around octane from a traditional 3D rendering background.

I assign custom names to materials in Maya before export, but when the single mesh is imported into Octane the outliner only shows the material type names from Maya. Instead of "TestSphere ...

Saving Live material presets locally and reloading ?

Just went through all the cool material presets after installing the latest build. A few questions -

1. Is there any way to save the materials on Live to my HD and reload, use them without going through Live ? I have frequent internet connection dropouts and would prefer to have the stability of ...

Re: more than 4K x 4X resolution ?

Posted the same question on the demo thread before purchasing and got some good feedback about resolution limits.

the hardware maximum a video card can render : 4096x4096
4096x4096 takes up 320MB of video card memory.

did the math and it works out to .078125 MB of memory needed for every pixel ...

SSS / sub surface scattering implementation

I was thrilled to see mention on other threads that SSS was planned for future releases :D

Had a few preliminary questions about the planned implementation.

Is octane looking to have multiple map / skin/ dermal layer channels in a similar approach to Mental Ray's Fast Skin Shader?

I've been ...

Re: Imported HDRI envrionment images loosing color ?

Kubo - Bingo, thanks ! Yeah, assumed at some point that "floatimage" was just a floating point image and used by mistake. Fixed :D

Imported HDRI envrionment images loosing color ?

Doing some HDRI tests and everything was great, started playing with envrionment map and camera settings just to see what everything did. At some point, my envrionment image lost it's color, going near greyscale and I can't figure how to get it back again ? Loading new images and restarting octane ...

Re: render resolution

Thanks ! Bit of a GPU rendering newbie here....
Just to make sure I understand, if 4096x4096 takes 320 MB of card memory without any large geometry overheads (or is that less geometry completely, just the render resolution) ,
does that mean each 1x1 in resolution takes .078125 MB ?
so 2000x2000 ...

Re: render resolution

Thanks Amplitude ! 4096 is fine, I likely wouldn't be going much above 2K.

Soo... any educated guesses as to how big I could go in this case ?

System XP 64 , 4 GB RAM
GeForce8800GTX 768 MB

Model size - 988K tri's at about 38 MB
Octane render test at 512x1024 using 583MB out of 767MB

Might be ...
