Re: *** Octane 2.3+ will require network connection for use ***

Well, realistically speaking, it is only matter of time for 1 hack of a genius to crack OC network connection and piracy once again flooding the net.
Maybe some kind of making OC think that is calling back home, but instead calling the local machine and it's done. Let's face it, Autodesk failed ...

Re: *** Octane 2.3+ will require network connection for use ***

I certainly have no issues with that and welcome the network connection.
Just one concern, what will happen in the middle of rendering and my connection went down?

For what I understand, is that OC will constantly call back home to check the legitimacy of the software.

What about when you ...

Re: Just bought Octane and buying a GTX 470, some Qs!

Thanks Radiance for the feedbacks.

It is a hard decision as if v.2 will come with SSS and displacement map support, then I should wait to get a new card with more GPU rams. Assuming that Octane v.2 will come out around end of 2010 or early days, the same time when the new 28mm Fermi card is out ...

Re: again...hardware for octane

Nope. 2x gtx260's will only give you 432 cores. That is less then 1 gtx470. If you are really strapped, check out the new gtx465. It has 352 cores and goes for just under $300 USD. It only has 1gb of ram though. Also you don't want to use SLI, it just screws everything up. If you use multiple gpu's ...

Re: Just bought Octane and buying a GTX 470, some Qs!

it.s hard to decide as octane doesn't support displacement maps. so can't really say much about how much ram needs to render.

Radiance? Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Re: Just bought Octane and buying a GTX 470, some Qs!

That is certainly a good question. I use Zbrush (character / creature still images) and my maps are 4k size.
I'm not a tech savy, so the same question goes here, how much polys render can a gtx 480 handle or Octane can handle? Am I even asking the right question?
Sorry, but an answer from an ...

Re: again...hardware for octane

@havensole,

Thanks m8. Just 1 thing, will 2 gtx 260 SLI better than get 1 gtx 480?

I am not interest in games.

Re: again...hardware for octane

Radiance,

I'm just wondering, what will happen if I need to render a scene that requires more than 1.5 GB rams (GTX 480) from the video card?
My work is mainly still images and character/creature work. I don't do any animation work.

My system at home is

Re: again...hardware for octane

Fair enough. as long you keep supporting Nvidia i'm fine as i'm thinking to upgrade my old card.
