Re: eta on beta 2.3 ?

So instead of software piracy, now we have money piracy. The software changes the requirements to run it in a way that prevents me from getting what I paid for. And I cannot get a refund.

Re: eta on beta 2.3 ?

My excitement about Octane has finally evaporated.

a. When I first bought the software it was said to come with "plugins" to connect with the main animation package. Instead I got a mel script that attempted to bridge the gap between Maya and Octane using the OBJ format... Hardly worth a cent.

A way to remove fireflies.

I was able to completely eliminate the firefly "effect" by reducing the gamma of the hdr map to .45.
Here is the result. (24 minutes::2527 samples::8800gts::octane1.022)

Re: Image based object lighting...

I was wondering that too. Is there anything like self illumination? Incandescence? Ambiance? Are they planned for the future?

Re: Beta 2.2 RC1: Maya plugin testing thread

I agree. The scale conversion should happen outside Maya. Maya, and probably other applications that do more than just rendering (modeling, animation, various dynamic simulations) will chew up your homework if you start screwing around with units. Frankly the scale change should be done inside ...

I got those artifacts too at some point. It was a bit early in my experimenting so I wasn't sure what I was doing.

[quote="bazuka"]yea ur right, but u couldnt see that if u didnt put side by side images ;)/quote]

If you do a composit to add some extra effects to the octane render it will be an issue. Or if you use a mat generated from Maya to lift something from the Octane render you will end up with a halo ...

Re: Beta 2.2 RC1: Maya plugin testing thread

Hi Bazuka,

Here's a zip file (see attachment) with a Maya scene and an Octane scene generated from it.
I rendered an image from both programs and made a multi-layered tiff from the result. If you zoom in and toggle the top layer (or do a diff) you can see that they are off by a couple of pixels ...

Re: Beta 2.2 RC1: Maya plugin testing thread

Hi again.

You are correct. The camera does match with the newer version of the script.
But it's still off by something like a pixel... Are you not seeing it in your tests?
I'll try it again with a fresh simple scene. Maybe there's some other variable in the mix.

Thank you.
