Nope, shouldn't be an issue. I'm doing that right now. Its honestly the only benefit to holding on to the default AMD card that apple throws in. Allows you to render the OS on the AMD card, and then set Octane ...

Ok, then you could probably do it. I don't think it'll hold too many cards though. Even with an external PSU, I think you'd probably only be able to fit one or two modern GPUs in it. You'd probably be better off with an eGPU at this point.

Yeah, thats pretty old. While you could definitely do it, I wouldn't recommend it. You do need a decent CPU as well just for the export from your 3D package to Octane. I have a 2012 Mac Pro and made sure to get the best CPU it could get, then replaced the GPU with a Titan ...
