Re: Textures dissappear after upgrade of Octane

Moonhowl ,

You are absolutely correct on how the version update warning reads, and I completely agree with your sentiments about Octane. This issue really set me back on several projects. Read the warning, figured I was fine since I already have 2.0. Surprised no one else has brought this up until ...

Re: beauty passes not adding up in photoshop

I found the answer to my problem after hours and hours of banging my head.

Even with a linear setup, my beauty passes weren't adding up because of a glitch with the tone mapping. Even if tone mapping is toggled off, the final render is still by some of the tone map settings, while the passes are ...

beauty passes not adding up in photoshop

When I render out the beauty passes and composite them in Photoshop, I cannot get them to match the original render output.

I'm putting the direct diffuse layer on the bottom in "normal" blending mode, with the other layers on top in "linear dodge" blending mode. The result is way brighter and ...

Alpha shadow not saving with render preset

The alpha shadow toggle in the path tracing kernel is not retaining it's setting when I save the render preset and reload it.

Export render elements to single, multi-layer file

Is it possible to render passes to a single multi-layer tiff, or even an exr file?

I've tried the exr dialog in Max, but it won't recognize or pull up any of the octane passes, except for the native G-buffer elements like z-depth. It would be amazing if we had the same post-process options shown in ...

Re: Atmospherics and effects

Thank you for the link.

When I make the object unrenderable, the hair also disappears. However, I did find a simple workaround by using a multi/sub material. The first channel holds the octane hair material, and the second channel material is applied to the proxy object and given 0 opacity.

Re: Atmospherics and effects

Thanks MaTtY631990,

I got the hair working like you said with the geometry setting, and I had to use a lower poly growth source. I do not see the link to those methods on volumetrics that you mention. Could you post that again?

Also, since I'm using a low poly proxy for my growth source I would ...

Atmospherics and effects

I can't get any of 3ds Max's atmospherics and effects to render with Octane, including fire, fog, hair and fur. I've tried several versions of the Octane plugin.

Maybe they still aren't supported, but it seems like other users are getting these things to render, including 3ds max hair and fur ...
