Re: Object dissolve over time

I have a few objects that I need to dissolve over time, but cannot see a way of doing it. The LightWave dissolve doesn't seem to work when rendering in Octane. Is there a way of doing this? :)

Dissolve works as expected for me. Have you tried dissolve using a simple scene with just a single cube ...

Re: Octane still rendering hair guides in wrong spot

The problem is not with Octane, its just one of the million problems with fiberfx. If you attempt to move the bones around, you'll notice that the FFX fibers move the hair in the wrong directions. In essence, when fiberfx is applied to an object, in a way the fibers can't actually see the heirarchy ...

Re: Texturing non-FFX generated strands

It looks as though I can get the surfacing to work by enabling the polygon hair option in Octane's object properties. Not as convenient to style but it'll do.

Texturing non-FFX generated strands

Is it possible to apply a uvmap to strands that aren't connected to the base geometry of an object?

In this example test scene, i've positioned the UVs of all the strands to be inside a red square, so I am expecting all the fibers to be colored red. Is there something I'm missing here? I need it so ...

Re: Questions about Fiberfx + Octane

Thanks for the info!

I still have a few pieces of the puzzle to put together but I'll get it sorted out.

Questions about Fiberfx + Octane

I'm having trouble finding the sample content that was put out when Octane started supporting Fiberfx, thus, I have some questions:

1) Where can I find the sample content for Fiberfx usage in Octane?

2) Is it possible to give a single fiber multiple colors using a gradient or something else?

3 ...

Re: Share your tricks for faster rendering

Here's one:

By making all of the outer walls in an interior emit light you can boost your render times by ~70%+. The gotcha to this one is that you have to be careful not to rely too heavily on it, or else it can make the environment look flat or too inaccurate. Octane favors scenes with balanced ...

Re: GPU recommendations

Thanks for these links rappet! Currently, i've yet to hit the memory ceiling beyond 3GB video ram in my productions so the speed of the render is my primary concern. I can fit 2 maybe 3 graphics processors on my motherboard and have the hardware to support that.

It's nice that the 780TI is about ...

GPU recommendations

I have some questions here:

My primary GPU got fried the other day and I was looking at the new 1080/1060 gpus Nvidia made available, and wanted to ask if anyone has one and/or feels they are cost effective for use with Octane (or other gpu intensive production applications) versus any other cards ...

Re: Baking camera

Make certain the following conditions apply to your UV map:

- No overlapping uvs. Octane cannot currently do proper baking if multiple polygons occupy the same space. This means "mirrored" uv maps are no good for baking.

- Every polygon in the entire object must be assigned somewhere in the UV map ...
