Re: "The Infinite Museum" - By: robeastham

Hi All,

I received a PM from Rikk The Gaijin asking if I wouldn't mind giving him a copy of the sheep skull scan used in The Infinite Museum for reference. So I thought why not! Planned to post it here and let everyone have access to it in case they find it useful too.

So I uploaded it to ...

Re: "The Infinite Museum" - By: robeastham

Yep I kind of figured that might be the route. My hopes that you could delight the individual 2D images before recreating a 3D model in Photoscan I'm now thinking would not be possible to do accurately due to lack of any 3D data. From what I understand Bitmap2Material does its best to de-light just ...

Re: "The Infinite Museum" - By: robeastham

Also, if anyone is still following along, I'm planning to incorporate a de-lighting mechanism into the next version of my turntable.

I'd be eternally grateful if anyone here knows about such things and can point me in the right direction. There is some discussion over on Epic's UE4 forums about ...

Re: "The Infinite Museum" - By: robeastham

I've found that the best solution with a turntable is to use a black background and then use the automatic masking feature provided by Photoscan. I'm getting pretty reliable results now. There was quite a lot of trial and error for a few months to start with though and I'm still having trouble with ...

Re: "The Infinite Museum" - By: robeastham

You can catch a glimpse of my scanning rig in action towards the end of my video submission for the Oculus Mobile VR Jam. There are also some stills of the inside of the automated turntable on the Devpost slideshow too (link below). My Mobile VR Jam app was called 'The Curator's Mini-Museum of ...

Yep it's Photoscan coupled with some custom scanning hardware I've built.

Re:

Photogrammetry for the win! I used the technique pretty much exclusively in my entry The Infinite Museum:

http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=97&t=49397#p244460

All scans lovingly prepared with my own fair hands. There are approximately 15 million polygons in my scene and so there's a lot ...
