Revit crashes on start
I need to access some projects, and this is an old installation of Revit 2013, Octane 2.16 and plugin 2.x (2.3.0.7 ~ 2.16.0.25), and Revit crashes on start, every time the plugin is installed. Octane standalone and Revit without the plugin runs fine. The Revit/plugin combination crashes with every ...

Re: OctaneRender for Revit 2.16 [STABLE]
Hi Andre. Thanks for sending through the scene. I loaded it into Revit 2015, and used the displacement map at http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=43025 and it worked fine for me (see below).

Regarding the plugin, if I open a 2013 project into Revit 2014 or 2015, will it ...

Re: OctaneRender for Revit 2.16 [STABLE]
IMO the better solution is to create many more control points in the topology that you are trying to subd. More control points means more polygons - which will get around the displacement issue you have (assuming this is why you need to subd).
I still can't make it works. Lots of control points ...

Re: OctaneRender for Revit Beta 2.12.1 [STABLE]
I was able to get it working by:
- Set Subdivision level to 1 and subdivision sharpness to 11 and click the reload button for the mesh
- Set the height of the displacement to 0.1
The above only works for Octane Standalone (since the Revit plugin does not provide Subd controls).

Re: OctaneRender for Revit 2.16 [STABLE]
Thanks for sending through that scene. You need to ENABLE smoothing for the material used on the column. Pls see FAQ question 1 at http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Revit/?page_id=416 .

Re: OctaneRender for Revit 2.16 [STABLE]
Hello Paul,
I'm getting some artifacts from Revit, take a look at these rendered extrusions:
not_smooth_extrusion.jpg not_smooth_extrusion2.jpg
They are just ellipses or circle based extrusions, either Revit components or masses. When I render using raytrace view mode or using the Mental Ray ...

Re: OctaneRender for Revit Beta 2.12.1 [STABLE]
The only subdivision config I found (v2.06) is under the "preferences > geometry import" You need to use 2.16 - since there have been displacement mapping fixes applied after 2.06.

Re: OctaneRender for Revit Beta 2.12.1 [STABLE]
Still about the second example of the previous post, I found this:
disp_test_floor_and_bp_02_revit.jpg
This is how an elevated (above ground by offset) building pad looks like in Revit
disp_test_floor_and_bp_02a.jpg
and this is how the same scene looks rendered. The way this algorithm works ...

Re: OctaneRender for Revit Beta 2.12.1 [STABLE]
Another findings about the displacement issue, maybe it could help isolate the problem:

Re: OctaneRender for Revit Beta 2.12.1 [STABLE]
If you set the subd settings as I documented above in Octane Standalone, you should get acceptable results.
