Hi. I wrote a blog post about my experience with Octane, over the years - I was I think an early adopter in Arch Viz.
It's not to be taken too seriously, but please feel free to have a read, and let me know any thoughts..

Re: Attic environment
Hi - the scale of your textures is still off I think - UK bricks are spaced around 75mm vertically (centre of mortar joint to centre of mortar joint above) - that makes your attic under 6 feet tall....

Re: Peter Guthrie HDRI
also, once you've made your own re-exposed hdr, try then playing with the gamma in Octane, as this affects the strength / definition of the shadows quite a lot
cheers!

Re: Peter Guthrie HDRI
Peter Guthrie's HDRIs are very bright I find
What I do is open then in photoshop, and add an exposure layer over the top, bring the exposure down a touch
I also resize them to I dunno, 4000 pixels wide
then save this out as a new version
I think he mentions this in his 'faqs'

Humster 3d
Hi all
The excellent Humster 3d are holding a rendering competition between now and the end of May
I'm sure many of you can make a better stab at it than me, but for what it's worth, here's my entry!

Re: Villa WIP
these all look great!
re noise, one thing you could maybe try is do two renders? One just with the emitters and a black environment?
But a first one with a white environment or neutral hdri, that isn't low level lighting, but then darken it and colourise it in photoshop, and then add the render ...

Re: How to render a dusk or dawn exterior
yep, certainly a lot crisper, and there's none of 'select colour range' business, which is a faff!

Re: How to render a dusk or dawn exterior
with something like this - it's heavily photoshopped
so, to give a fighting chance what I'd say would be:
a. keep all glass separate i.e. render it in a different pass
b. maybe try a render of the model without glass with a neutral hdri image (your ambient pass)
c. a second render of the model ...
