Hi,
The bowl in OBJ format downloaded from there contains only 1 material for the whole scene.
Octane reads that one material and applies it to everything as it should.
Octane requires OBJ+MTL files with different materials assigned to different objects in the OBJ file for you to be able to ...

You need to see if there is an MTL file exported together with the OBJ file.
this file contains the different materials.
It's likely an export problem.
please post a shot of your export panel configuration in your host app...
