I'm using latest free tier blender "OctaneRender® Prime for Blender" Blender_Octane_Edition_2020.1.3_21.11_stable.exe
I've discover what I think may be a bug.
I'm using default cube
add an empty to scene
add displace modifier to cube with Texture Coordinates
add a texture such as clouds to the ...

you could try adding a depth of field to the camera to blur the horizon

hi pegot,
I scaled up the domain and flow meshes - that seems to have fixed it. I know what you mean about blotchy but the more I play around the better the results I'm seeing. I'll post something up here when I've got to grips with it more.
