Re: F10 doesn't render arbitrary frames
Oh well, not a terrible deal anyway.

F10 doesn't render arbitrary frames
It seems that the Octane LW plugin, when pressing F10, only renders what is specified in the single frame range, but selecting the arbitrary option and entering several frames separated by a comma has no influence, Octane will still render whatever frame or frames are specified in the "single ...

Re: Daylight environment sharp shadows
Oops! Found it. It was the sun size parameter in the daylight environment.

Daylight environment sharp shadows
I realized something today that puzzles me about shadows. I have my scene set to daylight environment and direct lighting on Ambient Occlusion. I have an object that is about 100 meters up in the sky, and yet, it's casting a sharp shadow on the ground like it was 1 meter from the ground. This is how ...

Re: How to set specular on diffuse material?
Thanks to all for your replies. I tried the material mixer and it looks a little better, but not enough to justify the extra time in rendering, so I set it back to diffuse only.

Re: How to set specular on diffuse material?
Thanks for your replies. The thing is that even if I can lower the white level in the specular texture and set the diffuse so it's not mirror-like, it will still have reflections, meaning that it will add rendering time, and I have a lot of grass. With the diffuse material it doesn't have any ...

Texture displacement blending mode substitute in Octane?
Someone in the Lightwave forums showed me a good way to randomize a texture so it doesn't look tiled over large surfaces. The problem is that this is a native Lightwave method and uses the texture editor with several layers stacked up, the last one uses the blending mode "Texture Displacement ...

How to set specular on diffuse material?
I'm a bit confused about the materials terminology in Octane, being used to the properties in Lightwave and Modo. For example, in either program you can raise the specular property and see the effect on the material, which is kind of a fake reflection, even if it's not exactly that in theory. But it ...

Re: Easy way to convert regular surfaces to Octane?
Sure, but not everything can be exported, right? I still have to learn to use the standalone, but things that use specific Lightwave plugins probably won't work, right?gordonrobb wrote:3Dimensional wrote:And remember, you have the option of just exporting all your stuff from Lightwave and using standalone.

Re: Weird noise on render, not on IPR
Do you have, in your settings, IPR set to be using a different gamma? Or, has the object been imported as an OBJ and may have some vertex normal applied (you can see it in the bottom of the normal surfacing window).
Can IPR be set to a different gamma? I don't see any setting to do that, where is ...
