Re: Is this forum dead ?
Our internal V3 plug-ins are not being ignored. On the contrary, they are under heavy development (we are also bringing on new resources in the coming weeks for Maya). These plug-ins have to be heavily refactored to support an experimental and important feature we have wanted to bring to Octane ...

Re: 4x Liquid Cooled 970s or 2x Liquid Cooled 980 Tis ??
I havent used out of core memory, so not sure how it works or if theres any kind of performance hit/ limitations. You should check its available for your plugin as well.
As for VRAM, It doesn't add together like system RAM. With 4x 970 you will have a total of 3.5GB VRAM. Likewise with 2x 980ti you ...

Re: 4x Liquid Cooled 970s or 2x Liquid Cooled 980 Tis ??
Ultimately it dependes on whats important to you. I think most will base their decision on how much VRAM they think they will need against render speed. Considerations I can think of:
2x 980 Ti
Pro
More VRAM
less power consumption (I think), therefore less cooling required.
Room for adding two ...

Pagani Zonda walkaround animation
Here is my latest work. A Pagani Zonda 760 Roadster, created in Blender using the Octane plugin.
The camera animation was done with Blenders camera tracking feature - using footage I shot in my garden with my phone.
Rendering was done using the direct light kernel.

Re: Oculus Rift Dk2
Yes the distance between the cameras is your IPD.
The above method aims to simulate the position of your eyes when you turn your head - keeping a constant IPD no matter which way you look to give the stereo effect. The pivot point of rotation is where your neck would be. If you look at the camera ...

Re: Oculus Rift Dk2
You can render for the Rift using the following setup. It would be easier with a dedicated 'Rift camera' that does it all automatically, but for now this works.
Set up 2x cameras eye width apart, animate them so they rotate 1 Deg per frame about the origin as shown below:

Re: System RAM being eaten up
Ha ha, got to love a bit of RA3!
I've tried running a windows update and gfx driver update. I think I will re-install all my software at the weekend and hope that'll sort it.

Re: System RAM being eaten up
It's certainly problem from within the Blender application, but i'm not sure if the root cause is Blender or Octane (I'm using the Blender for Octane version downloaded from here). It's definitely a bug somewhere as the RAM usage just goes up and up, so even if I had 32GB it will still crash but ...

System RAM being eaten up
I am trying to render lots of small images over a long period of time (a couple of days). But after about 12hr of rendering (~9000 frames), my system RAM gets exceeded (16GB) causing Blender to crash and my render to stop. I notice during rendering my RAM slowly increases.
My specs are:

Re: Oculus Rift?
It's worth reading through this as its where I got my method from.
I am using the Blender plugin so not sure how it would be done in standalone. In the below diagram each camera is set to panoramic with a 1x180 FOV, and renders something like a 20x2160 pixel image strip. The cameras are keyframed ...
