The recent chitchat about exporters, tight integration, standalone, comunity exporter development made me think that Alembic might be an option.
For those unawayre of it, because I am lazy, I quote from their homepage:
Alembic is an open computer graphics interchange framework. Alembic distills ...

Re: The future of Blender + Octane
I don't think GPL should be an issue. Vray did a plugin for Blender, and nobody sue them to get the whole Vray renderer be GPL'ed.
No. It´s an independent dev´s work - by bdancer. And the plugin is an exporter for the standalone version of vray.
Let´s stick with vray for compariosn:

DIY Dongle for ATI for display only + Nvidia for CUDA only.
As I successfully ran cards of both camps in one machine already, but neglected that fact that many don´t want or have a screen to connect to the Nvidia card and now got asked in PM quite often:
You need to patch up a DVI dongle. What it basically does is, it makes the card(s) think a screen is ...

And before the discussion arises:
The watermark will be removed in one of the next versions - and you have official permission to crop the watermark from current renders. But hey, sound the drum.
It has no bump/normal/displacementmapping and no SSS yet.
It will remain free.

Re: Octane Render Power Tools
So I just have to pay 2/3 of what I payed for Octane to get a memory injection hack and a Blender exporter that doesn´t even has a feature description and a developer that shrouds himself in darkness and mystery.
Sounds like a no buy to me - I rather buy another Octane beta license to ensure ...

Re: OctaneRender® 1.024 beta 2.48 TEST (win)
At least you can now use an ATI card for display and work in your 3D app with good OpenGL performance and use an NVIDIA GeForce for rendering with Octane :)
Now?
How is this new?
I did that months ago.

Re: OctaneRender® 1.024 beta 2.48 TEST (win)
I am not sure why NVIDIA did this, but I assume (I am not sure though) it's a change related to trying to cripple the use of Geforce Products for CUDA computation in profesional markets.
OT:
You got to love NVIDIA.
They cripple GeForce Cards up and down in OpenGL (performance changes from ...

Re: Is there any plans to support instances octane? When?
While I concurr that Octane development feels slow, you got to be fair too.
Indigo RT 3.0 does not support SSS and Bidirectional MLT (Indigos strenght) does not work when you enable OpenCL and material creation is not even close to comfortable. Indigo 3.0 supports SSS but costs you 5 Octane.

Re: Bretchts New Blender Render Design
JoryRFerrell, Bretch is not alone, actually patches has been provided from various users, not so many actually, but cycles is at the first stages, what you can consider for certain is than in the next months cycles is going to receive a big push forward from the entire Blender community developers ...

Re: Bretchts New Blender Render Design
Yeh Jabber sounds good to me.
I actually got several displays so it didn´t occur to me to test it with only one - You´r on your own soldier. Good luck :P
If you need to install/reinstall/remove drivers I recommend to boot into save mode after uninstalling a driver and use Driver Sweeper . This way ...
