Re: It's a lose - lose situation: GTX 480

There were no performance issues. The card functioned great and was unbelievably fast for Octane. But, it would randomly cause my system to freeze -- really hard. My system has never frozen until I put that 480 in. Once I went back to the 280 everything worked.

After reading about similar issues ...

Re: It's a lose - lose situation: GTX 480

there is a driver cleaner utility somewhere on the net. probably will help.

however i have no experience with new GTX cards.
and i was ready to buy one just for octane but after reading your post ... i will postpone it for a while.

Thanks, I will have a look, and see if I can get the 280 to work ...

Re: It's a lose - lose situation: GTX 480

There's a post here where the Quadro drivers were hacked to work with Geforce level cards. You might want to see if it improves your performance. Of course any use of the drivers is not officially recommended by Refractive Software and the users assume all risk of trying them.

I tried that method ...

Re: gtx 295 or gtx 470 ?

Just be careful you do not use 4xx cards for your opengl display - milage may vary (for example, Cinema4d is less affected), but the viewport performance in Max, Maya, Rhina, Blender, etc. is dismal with the 4xx line. I have no idea whether this is still the case with the 580. The 295 will have way ...

Re: Need Nvidia Advice

If you want Cuda rendering and good opengl viewport support in Max, Blender and Maya, only Quadro's apply at the moment. Or use an inexpensive Quadro as the display card, and two 480's (currently very good deals can be found online) for rendering in Octane. That will give you a good performance ...

Re: It's a lose - lose situation: GTX 480

Cinema4d seems less affected by this issue, but working on a client project this week I noticed the pauses in C4d as well (working on a heavy xfrog scene). I ran Cinebench, and low and behold: the openGL performance for both cards is almost identical: about 44 fps (280), 45fps (480). That does not ...

It's a lose - lose situation: GTX 480

I just bought a GTX 480, and for rendering in Octane it is great, as well as for Premiere Pro CS5. Thumbs up.

However! Unfortunately, I discovered that Blender, Cinema4d and other 3d apps now suffer from hiccups, delays and generally dismal viewport performance, to the point that it's unusable. The ...

+1 to render passes - I am used to these in Cinema4d and Blender, and post has become essential to a lot of people.

Re: Enquiring about buying.

Hello everyone,

I just bought my license - the demo version worked like a charm for me, and with a 280 gtx it's 'quite' fast - I still have to get used to that output quality and speed. Quite amazing, actually: seeing I started on an Amiga 1000 with 512mb(!) and Sculpt Animate 4d. :) Even line ...
