Re: OcDS 1.2.120.34xx - BUG REPORTS

Yesterday OTOY was doing maintenance on their OctaneLive servers so the reason why it did not connect in the system tab was caused by this (today it is already working fine).

If you are really using Octane plugin for DAZ version 1.2 then the GTX980 is NOT supported by this version of the plugin ...

Re: OcDS 1.2.120.34xx - BUG REPORTS

I recently switched to a new pc system: Asus Z170 Pro gaming mobo, Intel skylake I5 6600k processor, 16GB DDR4 ram and a Evga GTX980 TI 6GB graphics card, running on 64bit Windows10. With the newly installed DazStudio 4.8 I have the following issues:

Octane Render does connect to Octane Live and ...

Re: Help! Very Confused Setting Up SSS Skin Materials in 2.x

I'm having the same experience with Redspec and the DAZ material settings. A custom skin shader doesn't have to be complicated at all to get a reasonably good result. This is a mixed material with a glossy material and spec maps, and a diffuse material with SSS. It might take some time to find the ...

Re: Stonemason buildings, minor problem

I can often solve geometry problems in Octae through (DAZ viewport:) Parameters>Mesh Resolution>Subdivision Algorythm. Especially Catmull-Clark (legacy) and Bilinear can do a lot.

Re: Skin Weirdness

Hey Melissa.

Your plane should be in the materials tab in Octane. Select 'default' and then right click > create as new light source. 'Simple' will do just fine for an ordinary light (spotlight) like you are used to in Daz. You can adjust its strength through the power slider.

Note however that ...

Re: We need an update...

Thanks for the info. I guess it's better to not update DS untill t_3 has fixed this stuff. :) I'm very much looking forward to the 2.0 version of the plug-in.

Re: Skin Weirdness

Yep. Octane - Materials - Node Graph Editor. In fact, you won't need to be in the DS surface settings that much anymore. All material setting and shading is done in Octane, as soon as it has picked up the textures. I even change the textures there. You don't see the changes in the DS window, but ...

Re: Skin Weirdness

Hey Mellisa. Here some easy basic material settings for skin to start with:

Skin:
Set material to glossy.
Keep Specular at 1
Set Roughness power to about 0.30
Set Bumb power to about 0.125

Lips, inner mouth, gums, teeth, tongue, nails, sclera:

Same as above but keep the Roughness low. Like under ...

Re: Serious performance issues.

I get this behavior (I7 - 8GB - 4GB 760)when I load large scenes or use high subdivisions. I was able to improve this somewhat by switching to an SSD. My educated guess it is having more to do with RAM than with VRAM, also because the actual rendering goes fine. So apparently the exchange of data ...
