Another VERY important fix for me in Linux is :
Standalone in command line does not need Xserver running anymore.
That was an important fix for me, automating renders with lua etc.
Thanks

Re: Compiling scene time not related only to the PCIe speed?
You will never understand things, if you do not code.
Please use CUDA Toolkit and try coding just simple things.
You`ll understand.

Re: processor
Forget about processor / mobo thing for now.
It all depends on your projects and the work you are doing.
I am doing 360 jewelry visualisation with Octane. I have 500 models with 8 metal combinations in average and 60 frames to render for each combo, which gives 240,000 frames in final accepted ...

Re: processor
Hi,
the cards you are mentioning there are too low to talk about CPU and MoBo IO bottlenecks.
You don`t need to worry about your cpu yet.

Re: Multi GPU / One Frame for one GPU
2 things to do for this theoratical approach
1.) Use RamDisk (In Linux it`s built-in and easy to deply, on M$ there are free alternatives)
Load scene with assets from the RamDisk and save render outputs to RamDisk
2.) Use InfiniBand for communication

Re: GPU - 1070 VS Dual 780 ti ?
IMHO, never, ever, buy anything less than 80 or 80Ti.
I do strongly aggree with FrankPooleFloating
Have a grasp on nVidia`s marketing strategy.
70s are always 20-30% low on price and in performance.
Ti`s are always 20-35% high on price and performance.
Think about how much PCI slots you can ...

Re: Multi GPU / One Frame for one GPU
:) Reason why I got involved in this post was :
I know the expectations of spending money on GPU`s and waiting for the best result. It is a naive willing, like in our childhood times. It`s like to have Santa before Christmas.
I`ve read carefully and imagined the situation in order to be of help ...

Re: Multi GPU / One Frame for one GPU
This thread seems to be so theroetical and useless,
1. If you have a scene that renders in 2 seconds on a single GPU, you don`t need to use multi GPU`s / renderslaves in real life.
(if you are rendering a movie of 2 hours = 120 mins = 7200 seconds = 180,000 frames ,
then you`ll spend
2 ...

Re: Multi GPU / One Frame for one GPU
When it comes to distributed calculations on a network of heterogeneous computing nodes, there are many many things to consider. You can not expect a software or a plugin to do all of the task for you. Focus on the bottleneck.
